FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Important information to consider before hiring an eBike in Cornwall.

Below are some of our more frequently asked questions but please don’t hesitate to contact us with any query this page does not address….

How fit do I need to be?

Cornwall is known for its rugged terrain and rolling hills, because of this cycling a regular bike requires good to high levels of fitness. The eBike changes this and allows anyone from a moderate fitness level upward to be able to enjoy the routes. The eBike has different assistance levels allowing you to choose how much or little support you want during your ride.

Is there a minimum age?

Legally you cannot ride an eBike under the age of 14 years old. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Where do I collect the eBike from?

We are based at the Northern tip of St Ives Bay, Gwithian Towans. With plenty of parking, Gwithian acts as the perfect starting point for all our ‘Favourite Routes’. We provide a FREE delivery service anywhere in West Cornwall for rentals of days 3 or more.

Do I have to stick to the recommended routes?

The recommended routes are a guide to some of the most famous ‘must see’ places in West Cornwall. If you are a regular visitor to the area or local, then we’re happy for you to create your own route.

What do I do if the battery runs out?

Our Rad eBikes have an impressive battery range of 55 miles. As a hybrid eBike they can also be used without ePower assistance. When hiring for over 1 Day a staff member will demonstrate the simple removal of the battery. The battery can then be charged using a normal plug socket and reattached ready for multiple day rentals.

Can I recharge the battery myself?

Your eBike battery will be fully charged on collection. The battery has an average range of 55 miles, which will be more than adequate for single day rentals. For longer (overnight) hire you will be shown how to simply remove the battery and will be given a charging cable that can be connected to any basic household plug. Full change takes between 5-6 hours so we would recommend charging the battering overnight.

Do I need to wear a helmet?

It’s a compulsory requirement stated by our insurance company that a helmet must been worn at all times whilst riding an eBike.

What happens if the eBike gets damaged?

Once you have been shown the features of the eBike and the ‘hand-over’ staff member is happy to authorise your rental the eBike is then in your duty of care. Should the eBike suffer any damage, be lost or stolen then you will be held responsible for the damages up to the retail value of the eBike. If you are riding on the roads, trails and beaches sensibly making sure that when you stop you park the bike up in a safe place then the chances of damage are low. However, if you’ve dropped down a coastal run of steps and the suspension is jarred and tyres bald from skidding then we will charge your card for the damage. The eBikes are all new for 2021 and we want them to stay in the best condition possible for every customer to enjoy. We apricate there will be general wear and tear and won’t hold you responsible for this.

What happens if I get a puncture?

All our eBikes are equipped with unique puncture-resistant tyres. Made from a layer of aramid and ceramic particles inside the tire under the tread, the Kenda K-Shield integrated tire liner is a line of defence designed to provide extra protection against punctures from thorns, glass, and other small materials. In the very rare instance a puncture still occurs, then please call our customer service team and we will send someone out to repair the tyre / collect you.

What happens in bad weather?

Discovering Cornwall by eBike is certainly the most enjoyable on a warm summer’s day. We would like to be able to guarantee these riding conditions on a daily basis, however if the winds are strong and/or heavy rain then we will rearrange you hire package. If a backup date cannot be arranged, then we will honour a full refund.

Do you take a deposit on my Debit / Credit card?

Just like when you rent a car, we will take an authorisation from the person who made the booking (reserve to take a deposit) on your Debit / Credit Card. This person’s details must also correspond to the proof of identification provided on arrival.

Coronavirus

The eBikes, helmets, locks and any further accessories will be deep cleaned using marine friendly products after each use. We will also practice social distancing where possible when handing the bike over and running through the feature / how they work.
